The records of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation span the years 1956-2005, with the majority of the records from the late 1970s to the late 1990s. During this time is when the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation was giving grants to organizations that were based in Arkansas and only does business in Arkansas. The collection is divided into three series: Series 1 Administration Files, 1956-2005, Series 2 Grants, 1972-2001, and Series 3 Financial, 1974-2000. Each grant folder has been divided into sections when applicable, original proposal, grant ageement or professional services agreement, then grant actions (divided by multiple year). The grants are organized alphabetically by organization name then by the grants number.

The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation (WRF) began originally as the Rockwin Fund in 1957. It was a philanthropic foundation that was started by Winthrop Rockefeller to help the people of Arkansas, primarily through educational grants. When Arkansas Governor Rockefeller died in 1973 Rockwin Fund became one of the two primary beneficiaries of the late Winthrop Rockefeller estate.
